When is the application deadline?

For both home/EU and overseas students the application deadline is the 1st May each year. Overseas students need at least 6-8 weeks to arrange their immigration permission. However all fees must be paid before the beginning of the Summer School according to the important dates posted in ASSEE site.

What sort of people apply to the Summer School?

Our Summer School is a very diverse programme, attracting a range of people from over 24 different countries since 2006. The majority of participants are currently studying at graduate and postgraduate levels, alongside a number of professionals from a range of business sectors (see Facts and Figures)

I have a disability, how do I let you know about this?

Applicants are able to indicate the nature of their disability when completing the online application form, and our local administrator can be contacted at any time to discuss any special arrangements.

I do not meet the prerequisites for a course but I do have relevant professional experience. Can I apply?

Whilst we aim to give you an enjoyable and unforgettable experience here at Crete, the Summer School is very intensive. If you do not meet the entry requirements but feel that you can manage a particular course, you should come in touch with our local academic officer to discuss which approach may be best for you.

What are the English language requirements?

You must show a good level of understanding of the English language as our courses are taught in English. We assess your ability through your application form.

What documents do I need to submit with my application?

Applicants will need to submit their detailed CV providing evidence of their qualifications together with a letter of recommendation. University transcripts are not required.

How will I be notified about the outcome of my application?

We will notify you via e-mail as soon as a decision has been reached. This can not be later than May 31st.

When do I have to pay my tuition fees?

Tuition fees should be paid once you have received a formal offer e-mail from our local chief organizing officer. Only once tuition fees are paid is your place on ASSEE guaranteed.

How can I pay tuition fees?

All payment is to be made via a Bank Transfer the details of which is sent to you in your offer e-mail. Unfortunately we cannot accept payments through credit or debit cards or with partial installments.

After I make payment, how long does it take for ASSEE to receive it?

Usually Bank transfers can take up to 3-5 days to be received.

Does ASSEE offer any financial aid for Summer School students?

Unfortunately the University of Crete is not able to offer any financial assistance to ASSEE students as this is reserved for regular year students.

Do any scholarships exist for the ASSEE?

Unfortunately the University of Crete does not offer scholarships for the Summer School.

Will you provide me with a visa letter?

We will provide students with a Summer School visa letter that can be used for their visa application. This will be sent to you by email or post once you have paid the tuition fees. For details see Visa information menu.

Can I get a refund for my tuition fees?

Refunds are available before July 1st with a cancellation fee of 50 euros. Beyond that date refunds are not possible.

I want to stay for a few extra days. Is this possible?

Yes, just let the local Organizing Officer know which extra days you would like. There is an option to book  extra night’s stay before or after the course. If you wish to spend more days around the island you can contact the travel agency CRETAN CONNECTION at brigite@otenet.gr.

How do I get to Rethymno from the airport?

Can you arrange airport transfer?

We do not provide an airport transfer service, however if there is a significant group booking we can arrange this.

What sort of things are there to do outside of studying?

During the summer Crete offers a lot of activities to do. Find out more at Summer Activities.

What will my timetable look like?

Typically you will have 3 hours of individual study each day. Your day may start as early as 9am, and finish as late as 6pm. Timetables are only established shortly before the beginning of the course and are therefore not available in advance.

When will I get my timetable?

You will be given your timetable on the first day of the programme. A detailed timetable is not usually available prior to the start of the Summer School.

How many people will be in lectures and classes?

ASSEE course enrollment ranged from 8 – 34 students per year. It depends on the topic of the course and application rates.

Do I need to do any reading before the course starts?

It may not be necessary to undertake a large amount of pre-course reading. Lectures will be the main focus of teaching. However, it may be to your advantage to read the recommended textbooks on the course webpage.

Will I receive course materials in advance?

Generally, course materials are distributed at the first lecture. However, you can access an eleectronic copy of them through My_ASSEE once you have be registered to the course.

What documentation will I receive upon successful completion of ASSEE course?

ASSEE students will receive a certificate signed by the distinguished professor and the chairman of the Scientific Committee. Along with that students will receive a transcript stating the ECTS credits earned.

How will I receive my certificate?

Certificates will be given to students on the final day lecture.

Will I be able to access my online course materials after I have left?

We strongly advise that all students download and save, or print any materials during the programme that they would like to keep. Access to course materials after the Summer School is not always possible.
